Cross-Blogging the Internet

WBIR's Web Producer Katie Granju posted something that caught my eye over on KnoxvilleTalks. Yesterday 4 victims and a gunman were killed in a shooting in Bristol. The details of this information were found mostly on the Web in Knoxville. All three TV stations had the latest on their Web sites, the Knoxville News-Sentinel had it on theirs, and of course we had it on our Web site. But it seems there are some media outlets who may be missing the train when it comes to the Internet. Most media outlets are actually using their traditional medium to drive people to the Web, not the other way aroung as Katie Allison Granju points out.

There’s a story developing out of Bristol, Tennessee involving a
shooting that may have killed several people
. I found the last line of the
story from the Tricities.com/Bristol Herald Journal sort of unusual for a
newspaper:

"Find out how many victims there are and whether a suspect has been
arrested in Thursday’s Bristol Herald Courier.

It seems a bit tacky for a tease, but it’s also odd for a newspaper to
be covering a breaking story online, but then tell readers of their online
portal that in order to get the whole story, they will need to pick up the
hard-copy version, on the newsstand…tomorrow.

Don't people want their news NOW, as it's happening?
